Squash
As a rather peripheral sport at St George's, squash has never had a very prominent profile. Of late though, it seems to have gained in popularity. Even though there are only 2 squash courts, they are productively used. The boys are able to take squash either as a "club" (extra to their sport of choice) or as their actual sport of choice for the term. This means that between the hours of 1:30 pm - 5:00 pm boys are able to come & go when they have the time and put in 20 mins to half an hour of practice - daily if they choose.
In this way the courts are fairly shared and there is activity all afternoon. Boys also enjoy playing in small groups doing routines to practice their skills. We have had, and still have, very good coaches, Our own present coach being the No 3 National Player, Admire Magwaza. This is very encouraging for the boys, particularly as he shares his time fairly with all players, be they 'A' team or social.
With the increased depth of players we have enjoyed this last year , particularly of very keen juniors, we are now fielding a fourth league team and currently have an A, B, C & D team in the top 4 leagues of school squash. Squash has been, and remains, a force to be reckoned with in this league.
With the correct etiquette and standards which are maintained at the courts, squash should continue to make a niche for itself in the sporting life of St George's College.
